I would've picked almost any other game from this weekend to highlight than the Galaxy-Chivas matchup, but I don't work for Disney/ABC/ESPN/MLS. They put that Saturday game on national TV, ESPN2, highlighted Donovan and had their "A" commenting crew-- Rob Stone, Eric Wynalda and Brandi Chastain.
- What about the the Real Salt Lake game, where Amado Guevara scored on a rebound (he didn't give up - now that is newsworthy) or where Meola made some outstanding saves or Kreis got great late header to even the score?
- In Kansas City, we had the New England Revolution and all those potential World Cup players, a black cat and a tornado warning.
- In DC, Freddy Adu came alive and almost scored (he shot a ripper off the crossbar.)
- The Dallas- Colorado Rapids game had two goals of the week by Dallas, then a comeback by the Rapids to tie the game.
Fans of MLS like good football and they get it every weekend. I hope they will reject this "instant classic" bullshit. I did enjoy Wynalda's contradiction of comments by Rob Stone and whatever sport he thought he was calling. And Donovan is good, but the game was not that great.

I watched 4 MLS games last night (Chi/Col, Hou/DC, Dal/Col, LA/Chv). I thought the LA/Chv game was the most riveting contest of the bunch. They all had some interesting points but if were choosing the newsworthy stories for MLSNet, that's what I would have lead with. All the other games are highlighted to, you just have to be patient and wait on the headlines to scroll. Not every story can be "above the fold".
Actually, the Chivas - LA game was the big story going into the weekend. I actually wrote a long post detailing the stakes. It was one of the biggest regular season games you'll see all season. Granted, it would have been a bigger story had Chivas won, but even with the result we had, it well merited its "above the fold" position.
