As Alan Curbishley exits Charlton Athletic, is Bruce Arena next?

Before this weekend’s Charlton game, manager Alan Curbishley said he would step down at the end of the season.

Bruce Arena needs a job after the World Cup.

He has said he’d like to coach in England.

He’ll have American Jonathan Spector to manage.

But can Bruce deal with the U.K. press? The fans?

Not such a far-fetched idea for him to do, in my opinion, but how serious it becomes depends entirely on how the U.S. does in the World Cup. Getting out of Group E is mandatory. And then beating either Brazil/Croatia/Japan/Australia in the next round.

Of course, anything beyond that will let Bruce write his own ticket.

He’s got a damn good record as head of the U.S. team.
